In the Name of Justice Event for All Ages at Faranda's, Featuring Elephant Rebellion

A community social justice event featuring guests from NIU, Chicago, and surrounding cities.  Join us to discuss how violence impacts our community, and the change we wish to inspire.  This is an event organized by UUFD Director of Religious Education Gladys Sanchez and sponsored by UUFD.  The event will also feature a workshop by Elephant Rebellion, a nonprofit organization that is made up of artists who empower communities through the power of art and education.

All ages are welcome to this event. Free refreshments are provided.

Community Discussion

The community discussion portion of the event will bring local government, community members, and police together for a peaceful discussion on how to resolve local community-oriented issues. The evening will provide a safe space and an honest dialogue that will focus on race, gun violence, and potential local issues, and it will allow community members to create an action plan focused on community growth and involvement.

Elephant Rebellion Workshop

The event will also feature Elephant Rebellion, a nonprofit organization that is made up of artists who empower communities through the power of art and education. Children of all ages are welcome to the “Know Your Rights” workshop. It will include an art activity, open discussion, and a free writing session for the participants to express themselves. The "Know Your Right"s workshop is a relevant education presentation to learn about your rights when interacting with law enforcement, or any other authority figure. Knowing your rights is vital to a fair and just interaction that is positive for both the officer and you. The purpose of this workshop is not only to learn your rights, but be able to assert them, as well as to educate others. Within this workshop, the youth will also engage in conversations that focus on race, diversity, and their vision of a community that they want to belong to.
