Black Lives Matter Discussion

A message to all members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb from the ministers and the board of trustees:

On November 20, over 30 UUFD members and friends met to discuss whether UUFD should put up a Black Lives Matter banner. We invite you to join us to continue the discussion. Please read the materials below, come, and join us for a discussion on:

Tuesday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m., UU Fellowship of DeKalb, 158 N. 4th Street, DeKalb, IL

Resources to prepare for the meeting:

The UUA has provided many resources for congregations.  Rev. Linda, Intern Minister Allen Harden, and the board of trustees ask that you please look at these 4 links from the UUA resources on Black Lives Matter:

•           UU congregations and individuals have facilitated conversations, built relationships and taken action in support of the Movement for Black Lives. Want to learn more about the Movement for Black Lives? Check out this short herstory of the #BlackLivesMatter movement from Alicia Garza.

•           2015 General Assembly Action of Immediate Witness--Support the Black Lives Matter Movement

•           Deconstructing the ‘All Lives Matter’ response by Rev. Cynthia Landrum

•           Apostles of Peace, Sermon by Rev. Dr. Susan Newman Moore, Associate Minister of Congregational Life and Pastoral Care at All Souls Unitarian, Washington, DC

Board member Lon Clark also invites you to review Martin Luther King, Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech delivered at the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Have questions? Please contact UUFD’s Intern Minister Allen Harden, who is helping to guide the congregation through Black Lives Matter discussions: aharden@meadville.edu or 773-288-2394 (please leave voicemail if no answer).
